Great Opportunity to gain experience in the Speech and Langauge department in our Center for Autism and Related Disorders!  Travel Required Across 3 Locations: Baltimore, Columbia, Odenton.

 

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A) will assist a certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) in providing treatment services to a varied population of patients. Under supervision of a certified, licensed SLP, this professional will implement a treatment program developed by the SLP, document results of the services offered as outlined in the treatment plans for each patient, maintain records to comply with specified standards, and support programmatic speech-language needs for clinical or clinical research needs. In doing so, the incumbent will assist the SLP in addressing the needs of patients, their families, and any impact the patient's speech and language disability has on his/her functional abilities. With supervision, the SLP-A will participate in intra- and interdisciplinary meetings and training.

 

The applicant hired for this position will be trained in the Achievements model (small group, classroom-based speech-language therapy for preschoolers with autism) until able to implement the program for children with a variety of language and behavioral needs and then will provide coverage as needed in any Achievements group across locations- currently Greenspring, Odenton and Columbia.  Candidates must be willing and able to drive to different locations and should be extremely flexible with their schedule, caseload and ability to work easily with others.


  1. Implement treatment plans and protocols for speech, language, oral motor, and feeding/swallowing services developed by a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist. Deliver speech-language treatment services designed to improve functional outcomes for patient.
  2. Document evidence of treatment and patient performance for the supervising speech-language pathologist to interpret (e.g., daily treatment data, data entered into software scoring program or report template for supervising SLP). Maintain documentation consistent with Institute and Departmental and discipline (AHSA and Maryland State Board) expectations, as well as guidelines established by The Joint Commission and CARF.
  3. Participate in regular supervisory meetings (minimum of 1 in every 5 treatment sessions) to inform supervising speech-language pathologist about patient progress and needs. Incorporate revisions in on-going treatment program, as recommended.
  4. Provide support for clinical services offered by speech-language pathologists in any of the following ways: preparing materials for treatment or documentation develop communication boards under SLP guidance, maintaining equipment and materials, assisting with scheduling, assisting with in-service or parent training and assisting with clinical research activities.
  5. Document and direct questions and issues regarding diagnosis/evaluation, interpretation of findings, referrals for other services, patient and family counseling, or training of other disciplines to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  6. With supervising speech-language pathologist present, participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities relative to patient care (e.g., team conferences) and professional training (e.g., staff development activities).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's degree or its equivalent, meeting coursework guidelines as specified by the Maryland Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have successfully completed all clinical requirements for Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, as defined by the Maryland Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
  • Must have experience with pediatric population with developmental disabilities or communication disorders.
