A Foreperson coordinates operations and oversees tree crew personnel. This position provides management and leadership to a tree crew while performing assigned jobs. The Foreperson communicates with the General Foreperson daily regarding all aspects of the job.
Essential Functions: Receives and interprets orders for tree trimming and spraying from the General Foreperson Plans and lays out daily work for the crew Assigns work for individual crew members and directs crews in performing work Enforces safe work practices, as experience, judgment, company policy, and OSHA specifies Obtains oral or written permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides Promotes and maintains good customer and public relations through effective completion of assigned work and the appropriate behavior of employees on the crew Maintains accurate records, timesheets, and reports related to the performance of the crew operations Safeguards the public from hazards in and around work areas Inspects and makes or provides for repairs to tools, trucks, and other equipment Conducts field training/retraining and instructs crews on new or revised job units Works around hazardous equipment Works in proximity to energized power lines Works around excessive noise from machines, chain saws, woodchippers, and other equipment with hearing protection Works in all temperatures and weather and will be exposed to nature, such as irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, dust, etc. Works at varying heights above ground and on unlevel terrain
Secondary Duties: Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Demonstrates knowledge of problem-solving techniques Ability to effectively communicate with others Ability to operate assigned equipment required for the job Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions Performs other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring to the Team Must be able to wear necessary PPE as required Must be able to drive an approved company vehicle safely Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, such as rain, heat, sun, cold Must be able to traverse various terrains Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods Must be able to walk, climb and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces Must be able to work efficiently and effectively from heights Must be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment Must have excellent communication and leadership skills Must have reliable transportation to and from the reporting location Must have a valid Driver's License Experience with a tree care/maintenance program, including but not limited to the operation of stump grinders, chippers, chipper trucks, bucket trucks, and other tree-related equipment Must have an acceptable driving record May be required to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination to obtain the appropriate Commercial Driver's License Must be willing to join the local Union Must be willing to pay Union Dues Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position Pass all drug and alcohol screens as required by Company policy and, if applicable, required by DOT regulations Be at least 18 years of age, or 21 if CDL is required Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred: CDL preferred but not requiredReimbursement may be possible if obtained according to Union agreed article High School diploma or GED preferred Conversational knowledge of the Spanish language
