As a vital member of our Regional Disaster department, the Disaster Volunteer Support Associate plays a crucial role in enhancing our disaster response efforts. This position focuses on the recruitment, intake, scheduling, and effective placement of Disaster Event-Based Volunteers (D-EBVs), local community volunteers not activated for disasters, and new organizational partners.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement strategic recruitment efforts to attract D-EBVs and non-disaster community volunteers to fill essential roles and shifts during disaster relief operations.
  • Efficiently fill open shifts using the DRO shift tool by scheduling D-EBVs and local community volunteers.
  • Engage and support D-EBV participation at disaster sites by managing the distribution and return processes of volunteer rosters.
  • Oversee and manage volunteer daily schedules, ensuring smooth operation.
  • Assist in setting up and operating a Volunteer Intake Center to facilitate volunteer onboarding.
  • Conduct screenings and scheduling for volunteers at the Volunteer Intake Center.

Time Commitment:

This opportunity requires a commitment of 14 days, with work hours determined by the scale of the relief operation, which may require a minimum of 8-12 hours per day across multiple consecutive days. For operations extending beyond the regional response, expect 12-hour days during extended missions, depending on travel distance. Please note that the time and length of commitment will vary based on specific operations.

  • Qualifications:

Candidates should demonstrate a passion for the Red Cross mission and a strong desire to assist residents in impacted communities by engaging local volunteers. Qualifications include:

  • Able to follow instructions effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in dynamic environments.
  • Proficiency in Volunteer Connection.
  • Capability to stand or sit for extended periods of two hours.
  • Aptitude for spending long hours writing, typing, or reading small print on a computer.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for clear speaking on the phone and in person.
  • Able to function effectively in stressful and rapidly changing conditions.
